- Use of screening tools such as AUDIT, DAST, or CAGE questionnaires
- Laboratory tests to detect substance use and assess overall health
- Detoxification and medically supervised withdrawal if necessary
- Psychotherapy including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and support groups
- Treatment of co-existing mental health conditions and ongoing follow-up care
