Known Symtoms

Well-defined white patches on hands, face, or other areas of the body
Gradual spread or enlargement of patches over time
Sometimes associated with loss of pigment in hair or eyes

Known Causes

Autoimmune destruction of pigment-producing cells (melanocytes)
Genetic predisposition
Occasionally triggered by stress, skin injury, or certain illnesses

Care

Clinical examination by a dermatologist
Wood’s lamp examination to detect subtle or early patches
Sun protection to prevent sunburn and reduce contrast
Topical treatments such as corticosteroids or calcineurin inhibitors
Light therapy (PUVA or NB-UVB) for repigmentation
Camouflage makeup for cosmetic and aesthetic concerns
