Care Before the Procedure
- Avoid sexual intercourse for 24 hours prior to the biopsy.
- Inform the clinician about medications, allergies, or bleeding disorders.
- Avoid using tampons, vaginal creams, or douches before procedure.
- Schedule procedure when not menstruating for optimal tissue assessment.
Care During the Procedure
- Relax and follow clinician’s instructions for positioning on the examination table.
- Communicate any discomfort or pain experienced during the biopsy.
- Remain still while the clinician uses the colposcope for guidance.
- Trust local anesthesia to minimize pain during tissue removal.
Care After the Procedure
- Expect mild cramping and light vaginal spotting for a few days.
- Avoid tampons, sexual intercourse, and strenuous activities temporarily.
- Take prescribed pain relief or antibiotics as advised by the doctor.
- Attend follow-up appointments to review the histopathology results.
Eligibility
- Women with abnormal Pap smear results requiring further evaluation of the cervical tissue.
- Individuals with suspected precancerous or cancerous lesions on the cervix.
- Patients with persistent HPV infection or abnormal colposcopic findings needing confirmation.
- Women experiencing unexplained postcoital bleeding or abnormal vaginal discharge for diagnostic purposes.
