Care Before the Procedure
- Wash hands thoroughly before attending the procedure
- Avoid eye makeup and contact lenses on the day
- Inform the surgeon of any allergies or medications
- Ensure eyelids are clean and free from infection
Care During the Procedure
- Remain still and follow instructions during local anaesthesia
- Keep eyes closed or directed as guided by the clinician
- Communicate any discomfort or pain immediately
- Blink minimally while incision and drainage are performed
Care After the Procedure
- Apply prescribed antibiotic or steroid ointment as directed
- Avoid rubbing or touching the eyelid to prevent infection
- Attend follow-up visits to ensure proper healing
- Swelling and mild discomfort typically resolve within days to weeks
Eligibility
- Individuals with persistent chalazions unresponsive to warm compresses or medical therapy, causing discomfort or eyelid distortion.
- Patients with recurrent external styes interfering with vision or daily activities.
- People with large lesions affecting eyelid function or cosmetic appearance requiring surgical intervention.
- Patients assessed by an ophthalmologist to exclude atypical or malignant eyelid lesions prior to excision.
