Care Before the Procedure
- Maintain clean eyelids and avoid makeup prior to the procedure.
- Avoid rubbing eyes to prevent further gland blockage.
- Inform clinician about any eye infections or recent surgeries.
- Perform warm compresses if instructed before the session.
Care During the Procedure
- Keep eyes closed as directed during manual expression.
- Relax facial muscles to allow effective gland expression.
- Communicate any discomfort or pain immediately.
- Follow clinician instructions for proper eye positioning.
Care After the Procedure
- Continue warm compresses and gentle lid massage daily.
- Maintain regular eyelid hygiene to prevent recurrence.
- Avoid eye rubbing or pressing on eyelids.
- Schedule follow-up for repeated expression or advanced treatments if needed.
Eligibility
- Patients with symptomatic meibomian gland dysfunction unresponsive to conservative therapy.
- Individuals with chronic evaporative dry eye causing irritation, redness, or burning.
- People with thickened or inspissated gland secretions affecting tear film stability.
- Candidates assessed by an ophthalmologist or optometrist for suitability and safety of gland expression.
