
Hearing Tests (Audiometry, Tympanometry)
Care Before the Procedure
- Avoid loud noise exposure for at least 12 hours prior.
- Remove earphones, hearing aids, or ear jewellery.
- Inform the audiologist of ear infections or recent surgeries.
- Follow any instructions regarding fasting or medication if specified.
Care During the Procedure
- Sit comfortably and follow the audiologist’s instructions.
- Respond to tones in audiometry by pressing a button or raising a hand.
- Tympanometry involves a soft probe in the ear canal to measure pressure.
- Tests are painless and last 15–30 minutes.
Care After the Procedure
- Resume normal activities immediately.
- Discuss results with an audiologist or ENT specialist.
- Follow recommended treatment or hearing protection measures.
- Repeat testing periodically if hearing loss risk factors exist.
