Care Before the Procedure
- Complete ENT evaluation and hearing assessment.
- Inform doctor about medications, allergies, or bleeding disorders.
- Follow fasting instructions if general anesthesia is planned.
- Treat active ear infection before surgery if present.
Care During the Procedure
- Usually performed under local or general anesthesia.
- Small incision made in the eardrum to drain fluid.
- Grommet inserted if indicated to maintain ventilation.
- Procedure typically lasts 15–30 minutes.
Care After the Procedure
- Keep ears dry; avoid swimming or water entry initially.
- Use prescribed ear drops or medications as directed.
- Monitor for pain, discharge, or bleeding.
- Follow-up visits to check grommet position and hearing improvement.
