Dr. Wiam completed all his medical training in the United States and pursued fellowships in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. With over 28 years of experience across the USA, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain, he specializes in diabetes, thyroid disorders, obesity, and complex endocrine conditions.
He returned to the Gulf in 1998, where he established a world-class center for Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Osteoporosis in Saudi Arabia. He later became the first Director of the Joslin Affiliate in Bahrain, in collaboration with the Harvard team.
Dr. Wiam is the Founder of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists Gulf Chapter, now known as the Gulf Association for Endocrinology and Diabetes, where he served in multiple leadership roles, including President (2024–2025). He is also the Founder and Chairman of the Bahrain Diabetes and Endocrine Review and a founding member and Treasurer of the Arab Thyroid Association.
